A Simple Exercise in Change Work

Making a change or creating something you want is simple (though not always easy). It can be hard to know where to start!

Here’s the GOOD NEWS: changing your life begins with changing your brain. And since you’re the owner of your brain, you’ve got this. Curious?

Should you accept this mission, here's your work:

Write down what you want or what you want to become.

Go all out. Pull out the stops. Be emotionally on board with your creation.

Now listen to all of the crap your brain tells you about why you can't have or do that.

Feel how your body reacts. Notice the thoughts that come up, and be willing to experience the discomfort.

Write down what you’re noticing…it’s valuable stuff to see (you could be paying a therapist hundreds of dollars for this)!

Now pause. SHAKE IT OFF!

Ask yourself:

  • What thoughts could I choose that would actually support me?

  • Who would I BE if I believed these thoughts?

  • How would these new beliefs feel in my body?

  • Who would I be if I walked around fully embodying my new self?

Write down your answers. Keep writing as more stuff comes to you.

Notice how your feelings change. Pay attention to the evidence that begins to appear around you - in small ways at first.

You are rewiring your brain to believe new thoughts. And as you identify as ‘someone who’ already is, has, or does the thing you’re creating, notice what changes in your life.
